Eczema is a chronic skin condition that can cause excessively dry, itchy, inflamed patches of skin. Although it’s most likely to first develop during childhood, adults can develop it, too. Unexpected or more intense flare-ups can be brought on by exposure to airborne allergens, stress and anxiety, harsh chemicals, and medications, as well as extreme seasonal changes in the weather.

Cold temperatures and harsh winds are more likely to trigger eczema than warm weather, making a fall flare-up common. The chill in the air during this time of year can cause skin to lose moisture and become dry and irritated, especially areas of the skin that aren’t well protected, like hands, cheeks, and eyelids.
